i swear there will be more to this website than plugging shows
But at the moment, I’m pretty much just gonna plug a show.
First, a little backstory!
So my good friend, collaborator, compatriot, b-ball teammate, Steven Lugerner has his own group called, strangely enough, the Steven Lugerner Septet (because there’s 7 people in it). He’s been developing this music and this band for many years now and I have been in and out of involvement for brief periods of time in the past. Steven recently recorded an album with the Septet (which is a superb recording) featuring 6 of the finest musicians I can think of. The band on the recording, in addition to Steven, is:
Lucas Pino-tenor zax, clarinet
Itamar Borochov-tpt, flugelhorn
Angelo Spagnolo-guitar, hairy nipples
Glenn Zaleski-piano
Ross Gallagher-bass
Michael Davis-drums
This group has some serious chemistry. However, Michael Davis recently left NYC to pursue a different musical project, and so Steven asked me to fill the drum chair. I was quite honored, even though Steven and I are already in three groups together (killer BOB, In One Wind, The Chives). I figured he might want to avoid me like the plague after that, but I guess there is a reason Steven and I are already frequent collaborators. There’s a musical chemistry, so why fight it?
Anyway tomorrow is Steven’s CD Release party for his double-disc debut (“Narratives” by the Septet, and “These are the Words” by a quartet w/ Myra Melford, Darren Johnston, and Matt Wilson) at Cornelia St. Cafe. Doors are at 8:30p, so come check it out!
shows updated, more recordings coming soon, seriously
